The Twin Crises of Suez and Hungary 1956; 70th Anniversary talk.

For two weeks in late Autumn 1956 two international conflicts occupied all foreign correspondents. While they were geographically separate and their causes quite different, both witnessed heavy casualties and impacted on international geo-politics, in particular, the future direction of the ongoing Cold War. This talk follows the story of each crisis, how they were linked, and to what extent they influenced one another’s outcomes.
