Bobbin lacemaking is a traditional Bedford craft going back to the 1530's. The tradition is continued by a group of lacemakers locally who have the aim of Keeping the Craft Alive. Lace is a form of weaving using thread wound on bobbins and worked on a pillow with stitches held in place with pins. It is actually easier than it looks to make lace as there are only two stitches to learn. We start teaching making bookmarks and keyrings to get used to the basics.
